Boys clinch win in singles

Panther girls shut out Chariton

Creston boys and girls tennis teams swept Chariton in dominating fashion Monday.

The boys prevailed 6-3 at home, clinching the dual victory by going 5-1 in singles matches. At Chariton, the Panther girls sailed 9-0 in outscoring the Chargers 72-11 in total games. The girls took all six singles matches, all by scores of 8-0, 8-1 or 8-2 before sweeping the three varsity doubles matches in similar fashion.

“Tonight was a good match for our guys,” Creston coach Kevin Cooper said. “It was great to get the win. We played good in singles and were able to get the win before doubles even started. We are still too inconsistent in doubles, but we will continue to work on it.”

Creston boys, now 2-3 for the season, play at Clarke Friday before Saturday’s Atlantic Invitational.

Creston girls showed superiority in all nine matches Monday at Chariton, improving to 4-1 in dual meets.

“Tonight our girls team kept things rolling with a win over Chariton,” Cooper said. “The girls have been playing well in singles and building consistency in their shots. It will be great to have a few days of practice before we gear up for the remainder of our season.”

The Panther girls play at Audubon Thursday and in the Knoxville Tournament on Friday.
