Adding flavor to life

Kelly Walsh's new food delivery business Farmhouse Flavor held a ribbon cutting Thursday, Dec. 5 with the Creston Chamber of Commerce.

When Kelly Walsh saw a need for a meal delivery service, she stepped up to the plate.

With the opening of her new business Farmhouse Flavor, Walsh will be providing busy families and homebound community members with hearty, homemade meals. While Walsh mentioned these specific customers, she’s excited to help everyone.

“People who are suffering from illnesses or surgeries, having a knee replacement, there’s a lot of times in your life where it’s just too hard to cook and you want something simple and ready to go,” Walsh said. “When someone passes away, it seems that they’re often given food right away, but once everyone’s gone home and the funeral happens, that’s when they maybe need some help with food and meals.”

Located at 615 S. Chestnut St., Walsh makes a rotating menu of entrees, sides and sweet treats. Here, customers can pick up the food either frozen or refrigerated, open from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Friday. They can also request delivery.

“If you want to have delivery, I actually offer delivery in the towns of Creston and Mount Ayr. I am happy to make those deliveries, just need to call and tell me what it is you would like delivered and I will get that to you.”

While the menu changes every week, Walsh said she’ll always have both family-sized and individual meal options. What she makes each week depends on the weather and season of crops.

“What I like to cook is farm food, meat and potatoes and things that are farm related, seasonal,” Walsh said. “Right now I’m having a lot of soups.”

Other food available this week includes lasagna, macaroni and cheese, a honey balsamic pork loin and a trio of desserts.

In the future, Walsh plans to offer cooking classes to both kids and adults.

“I think one of the important things is to teach them how to cook other than something that’s premade. Cooking classes for adults,” Walsh said. “I’d like to even get to the point where I can participate with elderly waivers, so I can do some programs for older folks who not only don’t cook for themselves but can’t afford to pay for groceries.”

Along with the premade meals, Walsh also provides catering services. For more information or to set up a delivery time, Walsh can be contacted at 515-493-6005 or farmhouseflavor34@gmail.com. Weekly menus are uploaded on Facebook.
