The Creston News Advertiser is a daily newspaper (Monday through Friday) that serves a seven-county region of south-central and southwest Iowa. The newspaper was founded as a weekly in 1879 and began daily circulation in 1881. The Creston News Advertiser is published by Creston Publishing Company which also publishes The Weekly. Since 1946, the Creston News Advertiser has been a part of the Shaw Media family based in Dixon, Illinois.

THE COMMUNITY Location: Creston is located in southwest Iowa on Highway 34 in Union County and is 70 miles southwest of Des Moines, IA, 95 miles east of Omaha, NE. and 180 miles north of Kansas City, MO. Creston is the county seat of Union County.

Market: Creston, Iowa, and surrounding communities. Things To Do: The Creston Park to Park Trail is approximately a five-mile walking/biking trail located between McKinley Park (Adams Street) and the south edge of Green Valley State Park along Green Valley Road in west Creston. Future plans are to extend the trail around Green Valley Lake State Park. Northwest of Creston is Summit Lake. Summit Lake is an excellent spot for bass, channel cat, and crappie fishing. Call 641-782-1755 for more information. Green Valley Lake and State Park is three miles north of Creston. The park and lake attracts campers with 145 campsites - 85 with electrical hookups - swimmers, boaters, and water skiers as well. The lake provides a beach for swimming, plus a beach house. Two four-season cabins are available for rent as well. Green Valley also offers great bass and crappie fishing. For more information call the Green Valley State Park Ranger at 641-782-5131. Five miles east of Creston is 12-Mile Lake. The 1,500-acre park includes a 650-surface-acre reservoir. Recreation enthusiasts can enjoy hunting, fishing, hiking, and bird watching. Fishermen from all over the state come to fish here. During the summer, approximately 30 fishing tournaments take place at 12-Mile Lake. Call 641-782-1755 for more information. The newest and largest lake of the area is 3-Mile Lake which was recently named one of the Top Ten Lakes in Iowa by the Department of Natural Resources and in March of 2004 was named one of the top 96 Bass Lakes in the United States by Field & Stream Magazine. It has approximately 2,100 acres with 900 surface acres of water. This is Union County’s largest recreational facility and offers fishing, swimming, skiing, hiking, and camping with two campgrounds overlooking the lake which have 80 sites to accommodate recreational vehicles, trailers, and tent campers. Each site has electrical hookups. Water is available along with picnic sites, a fish cleaning station, and dump station. Showers, sinks, and flush toilets are available nearby at the year-round comfort station. Eight four-season cabins are available for rent as well. Public hunting ground is available. Overlooking the lake as well is the newest addition to the Three-Mile Lake Park, Three-Mile Lake Lodge which is available for rent by the public year-round.
