Creston sweeps Clarke

Creston’s Kadley Bailey fights with Clarke players for the ball Tuesday in a 60-27 win over the Indians.

OSCEOLA — The Panthers had a successful night on the road Monday, coming away with two victories.

Girls

The Panther girls (7-12) dominated Clarke (2-15) from the beginning, going up 14-2 after one and 33-4 at the half. They won the match 60-27.

Junior Kadley Bailey led Panther scoring with 29, her second-highest of the season. Bailey was 5-7 from behind the arc.

Junior Hollynn Rieck tied the program’s single-game assist record with 15. She shares the title with Lindsay Courtney who set the record in 1997.

Senior Adyson Morrison knocked down two threes in scoring six for Creston.

Brynn Tussey led in rebounds with eight while Rieck and Braylee Pokorny each added seven.

On defense, Creston forced 24 turnovers led by Bailey and Ella Turner, each with five steals.

Clarke was led by Reese Shaw and Maisy McCoy who each scored nine.

Boys

A massive third-quarter by the Panthers (9-8) overturned a halftime deficit, leading to a 75-62 win over the Indians (4-14). Creston scored 30 points in the third after scoring only 31 in the first half.

Three Panthers scored double digits, led by Jake Hoyt with 27.

Seniors Brayden Schoon and Parker Varner had their best games of the season with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Varner hit four shots from behind the arc.

Schoon capitalized on stellar shooting, making 8-11 from the field and 3-3 free throws.

Though sophomore Rhett Driskell was low on points with three, he led the team in rebounds with 10 and assists with seven. Hoyt added nine rebounds.

Clarke also had three double-digit scorers, led by Brock Watson with 21. Ryan Diehl had 18 while Nash Bishop had 10.

The Panthers forced 17 turnovers, keeping their own to 10.

Both Panther teams return to action tonight at Earlham.
