GLENWOOD — Creston and Glenwood split their doubleheader with the Panther girls and Ram boys coming out on top.
Girls
The Creston girls earned their first victory over Glenwood in the last seven years with a 51-46 come-from-behind victory.
The Rams (3-12, 3-6) got out to a hot start, putting up 22 points in the first quarter while holding the Panthers (6-11, 3-5) to just 10.
Despite the large point swing, it was the only quarter the Rams outscored the Panthers.
Creston came back in the second, outscoring Glenwood 18-11. It wasn’t enough to close the gap, though, leaving them down 33-28 at the half.
The Panthers’ third-quarter defense was the game changer as they held the Rams to just three points, taking a 38-36 lead heading into the final quarter.
Three Panthers had double-digit scoring nights, led by junior Kadley Bailey who had 15. Ella Turner added 12 and Braylee Pokorny had a standout night with 10 points off the bench.
Junior Hollynn Rieck led in rebounds and assists with 12 and nine, respectively.
Led by Bailey and Rieck with five each, the Panthers had 16 steals.
Boys
Though the Panthers (7-8, 4-4) were leading at the end of the first quarter and at the half, Glenwood (13-3, 7-2) made a second-half comeback to win 52-45.
Creston’s defense held the Rams to just 18 points in the first half, but an impressive third quarter by Glenwood saw them score 20, taking the 38-35 lead.
The Panthers lacked their typical deep threat, making only 3-13 from behind the arc.
Senior Jake Hoyt led scoring with 17 points while sophomore Rhett Driskell added 13 including two threes.
The Rams outrebounded the Panthers 35-24 including 11 offensive rebounds. The Panthers put up only four offensive rebounds, three by senior Brayden Schoon.
Hoyt led with six rebounds and had a game-high five steals.
Senior Parker Varner and junior Cael Barton led with three assists each.
Glenwood was led by senior Drew Schroeder with 12 points and eight rebounds.
The Panthers teams return to action Friday as they visit Harlan.
