Panther boy bowlers showing better numbers

A new calendar year has shown some improvement in the Creston Panthers bowling team.

“The kids have been bowling much better,” said coach Ron Pendegraft. “The boys are on fire. I don’t know what happened but they flipped a switch.”

Creston boys won Jan. 20 at Lenox 2,529 to 2,368.

Brett Orr was high score for Creston with 372. He was followed by Stephen Sistad at 371; Other scores were Caden Brinder, 352; Drake Pendegraft, 302; William Nutt, 280; Marshall Howard 277. Creston scored 852 in the Baker round. High score for Lenox was Cade Cordell with 336.

Lenox scored 781 in the Baker round.

Creston boys placed fourth Jan. 14 at the Red Oak tournament. Shenandoah won the six-team meet with 3,052. Creston scored 2,485.

Orr was high score for Creston with 459. Others were Nutt, 322; Sistad, 311; Brinder, 306; Howard, 298 and Pendegraft, 279. Creston scored 789 in the Baker round.

Other team scores were Red Oak, 2,861; Lewis Central, 2,790; Harlan, 2,379 and Lenox, 2,325.

Panther boys lost Jan. 13 at Mount Ayr 2,624 to 2,243. Orr was high score for Creston with 353. Other Creston scores were Sistad, 336; Pendegraft, 302; Howard, 277; Brinder, 245; Nutt, 204. Creston scored 730 in the Baker Round. Top score for Mount Ayr was Willie Baker at 409.

Creston returned to action after the holiday break Jan. 9 at Clarke. Clarke won with 2,863 points over Centerville with 2,134 and Creston, 1,880. Pendegraft was top score for Creston with 288. Nutt finished with 268 followed by Brinder, 257; Howard, 253, Allen Reed, 215 and Hunter Downing, 182. Creston scored 599 in the Baker round.

“Everyone has done well on the boys,” coach Pendegraft said. He added Orr’s average is about 200 and the others have raised theirs 30 to 40 pins.

Girls

Panther girls do not have enough members to score as a team. At the Red Oak tournament, Jana Peavler led Creston with 264. She was followed by Nicole Nutt, 226 and Olivia Coenen, 206. The girls scored 696 and 282 in the Baker round.

At Mount Ayr, Creston scored 894. Peavler was top score with 248. Olivia Coenen finished with 196 and Nutt had 121. The girls scored 334 in the Baker round.

At Clarke, Peaver finished with 253 as three girls finished with 631. Coenen scored 221 and Nutt finished with 157. In the Baker round, the girls scored 337.

As February approaches, so does the end of the season. Creston bowls Feb. 4 against Lamoni at Mount Ayr. Creston is scheduled to return to Clarke on Feb. 13. The Hawkeye 10 meet is Feb. 14 at Thunderbowl in Council Bluffs.

The girls regional meet is Feb. 17 and the boys meet is Feb. 18. Locations have not yet been determined.
