The Panthers hosted Red Oak and Atlantic Thursday to open conference competition, and the Creston girls wrestling team walked away from the duals 2-0.
The Panthers topped Red Oak 48-33 and Atlantic 48-18.
Red Oak
In the six matches wrestled with the Tigers, the Panthers won four, all by pin.
The dual started at 130 where freshman Karlie Kruse faced off against No. 5 Nicole Bond of Red Oak. Kruse held off against a pin, falling in a 10-3 decision.
Creston junior Grace Keeler found the first win of the night in a second-period pin over Amber Rea.
Red Oak responded with a pin of their own, Paige Baier taking down Lydia Williams in 3:15.
Junior Nevaeh Chesnut wrestled Bryleigh Mauer, pinning her in 3:34 to regain momentum for the Panthers.
Creston’s Sydney Hoffman had a quick bout against Madison Osheim, pinning her in 29 seconds.
The final bout of the dual saw Creston’s Alainah Galanakis, No. 4 at 125, face Jadeyn McAlpin. Galanakis won the bout in a second-period pin, giving the Panthers the 48-33 dual win.
Atlantic
With Atlantic separating from SWAT this year to form their own team, they brought only three wrestlers to the dual.
Only two weight classes lined up to have matches.
The heavyweight bout featured No. 2 Haley Armstrong of Atlantic facing first-year Christina Strand of Creston. Armstrong won the bout in 19 seconds.
Cadence Kinzie won the 115 lbs match over Sydney Hoffman of Creston in a second-period pin.
The Panthers wrestled at Glenwood Tuesday in a triangular with Treynor. Results were not yet posted by print time.
