Panthers fall in tough opener

CARROLL — Kuemper Catholic, a Class 2A state volleyball qualifier last season, defeated the Panthers 3-0 in Carroll Tuesday.

The Panthers (0-1) put up 14 points in game one and 12 in each of the final two games.

The team served 92%, missing only four out of 51 serves.

Junior setter Kadley Bailey led the team with 10 assists. Hollynn Rieck added four.

Rieck had a team-high five kills, Ella Turner adding four and Jaycee Hanson putting up two.

Freshman Kolbi Peter led the Knights with 11 kills. Kuemper had 63 digs, led by junior Kaylie Simons who had 30.

The Panthers return to action tonight in a quad at Carlisle.

They face Oskaloosa at 4:30 p.m.; West Marshall at 5:45 p.m. and Carlisle at 7 p.m. Their home opener is Thursday, Sept. 5 against Shenandoah.
