A number of area athletes were recognized by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association with placements on the all-state softball teams.
Creston
The Panthers had two earn second-team honors — juniors Ava Adamson and Jersey Foote.
Adamson served as both catcher and short stop for Creston on defense.
With 142 outs on 167 attempts, Adamson had a .928 fielding percentage.
At the plate, she led the Panther starters with a .484 batting average and 37 runs. Her batting average is fifth best in the Hawkeye 10.
Adamson was second in home runs with eight, and led with four triples and 12 doubles. She stole 18 bases on 19 attempts, a team-high. Her 96 total bases is second in the Hawkeye 10.
Foote, the team’s centerfielder, excelled on both defense and offense — smoking 12 homers this season.
Foote’s 36 RBIs led the Panthers and was fourth in the Hawkeye 10. Her 82 total bases is fifth.
In centerfield, Foote had 55 catches on 65 total chances for a .923 fielding average. She made only five errors.
Murray
The Mustangs placed two athletes on all-state teams, junior Presley Van Winkle earning first-team honors and sophomore Kiersten Klein landing on the third team.
Pitcher Van Winkle’s 23 wins at the plate ranks fourth in Class 1A. She started 29 games, the third highest and pitched 173.2 innings, the fourth highest.
She led the Mustangs with 45 hits, 38 runs and 22 walks. She had 27 RBIs.
Her batting average was .529 with a .627 on-base percentage. On the bases, she stole 22 of 24.
Klein was a heavy hitter for the Mustangs, knocking 11 balls out of the park and leading the team with 40 RBIs.
She was also clean defensively, putting up 45 assists and 27 outs with only two errors for a .954 fielding percentage.
Orient-Macksburg
The Bulldogs also placed two girls on all-state teams, sophomore Emma Boswell earning second-team recognition and Kasyn Shinn earning honorable mention.
Boswell led Orient-Macksburg in hits with 47, doubles with 14, home runs with six and RBIs with 41. She had an on-base percentage of .660 this season, the third highest in Class 1A.
She led the Bulldogs in stolen bases with 21 in 21 attempts. Boswell was also a fine fielder with only four errors all season.
Shinn batted .284 with 21 hits, a home run and 12 RBIs.
She was hit by the pitch 15 times — the most by any batter in Class 1A.
Shinn had nine stolen bases and a fielding percentage of .909 this season.
Lenox
Junior Sadie Cox earned third-team honors for her performance this season. This is her third consecutive year earning all-state honors.
Cox led the Tigers offensively this season with five home runs, 35 RBIs and .776 slugging. In 76 at bats, she struck out just seven times.
As the Tiger shortstop, Cox led the defense and tied for 10th in Class 1A with 69 assists. She also had 49 outs and finished the season with a .901 fielding percentage, with 13 errors in 131 chances.
