Hwy 34 takes silver in DeWitt

DEWITT — With 10 Highway 34 wrestlers earning a podium spot Friday in DeWitt for the Saber Girls Wrestling Invitational, they took second as a team behind West Liberty.

Savannah Sistad, 235, was the team’s only weight class winner, taking down all three opponents in first-period pins. She earned the team 28 points.

Evy Marlin placed second at 130 after defeating three opponents on her way to the final bout where she fell in a second-period pin. Marlin earned the team 22 points.

Grace Keeler and Zoey Vandevender each placed third at 125 and 135, respectively. Keeler earned 17 points and Vandevender earned 18 points.

Keeler came back after going down 6-2 early in her first match. She won the bout 7-5, going on to pin her next opponent before falling in the semifinals. She pinned her final opponent in the third period to take bronze.

Vandevender took down her first opponent 2-0 and pinned her next two before being pinned in the semifinals. She earned an 11-1 major decision in the final bout to take third.

Earning fourth were Sydney Hoffman (115), Mila Kuhns (140) and Cheyenne Dike (145).

They earned the team 15, 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Taking fifth were Quynn Foster (105) and Alainah Galanakis (120), scoring 11 and 12 team points, respectively.

In sixth was Hope Woods at 100.
