Streaming fees for UNI-Dome games

Title games televised on KDSM Fox-17

Participating schools in the semifinals and championship rounds of the Iowa high school football playoffs received information this week from the Iowa High School Athletic Association concerning television and streaming access of those games in Cedar Falls the next two weeks.

The IHSAA has a contract with the Iowa High School Sports Network to provide public viewing access. Those parties are currently in litigation about that contract, with the IHSAA challenging a fee system required by IHSSN for streaming.

Per IHSSN, the “Game Pass” for streaming the semifinals and finals is $9.99 per game plus tax, and the “Tournament Pass” is $18.99 per game plus tax. The Tournament Pass is good for all classes and all games of the semifinals and finals. Those streaming options are available at IHSSN.com and the Watch IHSSN mobile app.

In regards to television broadcasts of games, the semifinal games Nov. 8-11 will air on the IHSSN cable network, which includes Mediacom (MC22), Aureon affiliates, Premier Communications and The Community Agency (TCA).

The championship games Nov. 16-17 will air free of charge on the IHSSN broadcast network that includes KDSM (Des Moines Fox-17), NPTH (Sioux City), NPTM (Council Bluffs-Omaha), KFXA (Cedar Rapids), KXLT (Mason City-Rochester) and WQAD (Moline-Quad Cities).

Streaming options through IHSNN.com and the Watch IHSSN app remain the same in the championship round as in the semifinals.

The Iowa High School Athletic Association issued a statement on Monday regarding the ongoing litigation in the media rights dispute with Iowa High School Sports Network. IHSAA has objected to IHSSN’s live streaming charges since they were announced last summer. The dispute remains ongoing in Polk County District Court.

“The IHSAA will continue to pursue free public access to broadcasts and streaming of its championship events. Until then, attending IHSAA championships allows fans to support our schools in person and ensures purchases go toward student-athlete programs and experiences,” the statement said.

Saturday’s Creston vs. Bishop Heelan semifinal game at 4 p.m will be broadcast by KSIB 101.3 FM and KMA FM 99.1.
