Panthers No. 3 on RPI rankings

Rankings used for playoff berths

The first weekly Ratings Percentage Index list for the highest three classifications in Iowa high school football have been released, including Creston ranked No. 3 on the Class 3A RPI list.

RPI considers season record, opponents’ records and records of opponent’s opponents.

District standings have also been announced for all classes by the Iowa High School Athletic Association, with Creston leading Class 3A District 6 with a 2-0 mark with three games remaining.

The rankings for Class 2A, 1A, A and 8-player are determined during the regular season by official rankings committees. In 8-player, Bedford is ranked third and Lenox eighth.

The IHSAA will use the rankings as a primary tool for postseason assignments, while maintaining school and geographic considerations.

In Classes 3A and 4A, district champions and runners-up are automatic playoff qualifiers, with four at-large bids completing the 16 berths. In 8-player the top three in each district qualify for playoffs. In Class A through 2A, the top four in each district qualify.

Rankings and RPI will be released weekly on Monday through Oct. 16.

Also, Creston remains No. 2 on the weekly Associated Press high school football poll. Williamsburg is ranked No. 1.
