Clarke wins golf dual

In cold, windy conditions Friday afternoon at Crestmoor Golf Club, the Clarke boys defeated Creston golfers, 174-201.

With three female competitors, Creston didn’t post a girls team score, but Creston’s Makaela Downing was medalist with a 49 for a three-stroke margin over Clarke’s Bridgette Henry with a 52.

Boys medalist was Clarke’s Shay Mathews with a 41. Runner-up was Austin Gonseth with a 43.

Creston also hosted a triangular meet Thursday, taking second in the boys competition with a score of 196. Shenandoah placed first at 172 and Southwest Valley ended at 231. Jade Spangle of Shenandoah shot 39 as boys medalist.

Ethan Bruce of Southwest Valley was fourth at 42 and Carson Rieck of Creston was fifth with a 46, followed by teammate Chasse Downing at 49 in sixth place overall.

On the girls side, Southwest Valley topped Shenandoah, 216-235. Creston’s Downing was medalist with a 47.
