Hawkeye Community College picked up their first-ever ICCAC Trap Shooting conference championship title last weekend at the 2022 Iowa Collegiate Clay Target Championships. The RedTails, who have won the East Division for the past five seasons, scored a 463 on a tough day for all shooters, to prevail.
While Southwestern placed seventh out of 10 teams in trap shooting with an overall score of 419, sophomore Spartan Cole Sorenson took home the men’s individual title, hitting 98 out of 100 targets.
In skeet shooting, the Spartans placed fourth out of six with a score of 423. Sorensen placed second, being narrowly defeated in a shootout with Tevin Statzer of Iowa Western. Both shot a 99 and Statzer went on to win the shootout with a score of 4-3.
Iowa Western went on to win skeet shooting, posting a score of 479.
In sporting clays, SWCC finished sixth out of seven with a score of 153. Iowa Western also took the win in that category with a 219.
