Creston’s Clayton places 28th at state bowling

WATERLOO – Creston senior Mason Clayton finished her bowling career at Maple Lanes in Waterloo on Wednesday with a three game score total of 450.

Clayton’s second game was her best, where she bowled a 161.

Her first and third games she bowled a 142 and 147 respectively.

The top eight individual placers had a scoring range of 591 to 645.

“Mason bowled a little above her average this year at state but the competition has become so ferocious that if you don’t bowl well above your average you’re not gonna have much of a chance,” Creston head coach Ron Pendegraft said. “I wasn’t disappointed with her score, but I know she can do so much better and I know she wanted to do better as well.”

Kally Burchett made it last year as an individual for Creston, where she placed 49th in the Class 1A Individuals Iowa High School Team Bowling Tournament.

In total, Mason Clayton knocked down 3,058 pins in 21 games for the Panthers during the 2021-22 season.

“She made it there, and she competed well, and she handled herself very well and I was very proud of her,” Pendegraft said.
