Creston boys beat Indianola, girls fall at Harlan in soccer

CRESTON — Creston boys soccer beat Indianola 3-1 at Panther Stadium Thursday night.

“We played a quality team Tuesday night in Glenwood and played a team from a bigger school tonight in Indianola, so it was nice to get a win against a Class 3A school,” said Creston coach Chad Malmanger.

The Panthers led 1-0 at halftime on a goal from Brodie Wallace that was assisted by Aiden Anderson, as Anderson beat Indianola’s defenders downfield for the pass to Wallace.

Creston went up 3-0 on two goals from Aidan Anderosn in the second half before the Indians scored late in the game.

Malmanger said that having Derek Paup in goal and some of the defensive changes that have been made lately were both factors in the win.

Creston hosts a boys and girls soccer tournament Saturday. The boys open with a game against Boone at 9 a.m. Games are at 90-minute intervals through much of the day.

Girls fall 5-1 to Cyclones

HARLAN — Creston girls soccer lost a 5-1 game at Harlan Community’s Merrill Field Thursday night.

The Panthers trailed 4-0 at halftime. On a crossing pass, Chloe Marlin scored Creston’s lone goal of the game.

Creston coach Ryan Kissell said Keyana Peterson was in goal for the team and performed well, especially when help was around from her teammates.

“The injury bug has caught up to us a little bit,” Kissell said. “We’re down some girls at the moment. We made some crucial mistakes on the back end that left our goalie 1-on-1 quite a few times and that hurt us.”
