Glenwood 66, Creston 44
Creston boys junior varsity fell to Glenwood 66-44 Thursday.
“We were down by 10 at halftime and fought off their full court press,” coach Todd Jacobson said. “We only had four made field goals in the second half, and Glenwood was able to pull away for the winning margin.”
Derek Paup and Payton Conley each scored eight points. Patrick Varner and Cael Turner each scored seven points.
Creston 72, Clarinda 59
Creston junior varsity took down Clarinda 72-59 Monday, Feb. 8.
“We were able to win after losing the previous meeting with them early in the year. Good team win in the second half,” Jacobson said. “We were 23-for-30 from the free-throw line and a lot of those were in the last three minutes to seal the win.”
Varner led the team with 18 points. Derek Paup scored 16 and Ethan Crawford rounded out double-digit scoring with 10 points.
Creston 74, Red Oak 65
Creston junior varsity knocked off Red Oak 74-65 Saturday, Feb. 6.
Creston trailed 32-29 at halftime before coming back in the second half.
“We were able to do a better job defensively of switching the screens and got extra baskets in the press,” Jacobson said. “We were 25 of 34 from the free-throw line and hit some key free throws to seal the game.”
Varner scored 25 points for a team-high. Paup and Crawford combined for 21 points, finishing with 11 and 10, respectively.
