Area boys basketball roundup: Nodaway Valley takes down East Union, Mount Ayr battles No. 3 Martensdale

Seymour 59, Orient-Macksburg 37

MOULTON – Orient-Macksburg (1-11) lost its ninth straight game Saturday, falling to Seymour (5-9) 59-27.

Tyson Ross scored 14 points for a team-high. Blake Thompson scored 10 points with three 3-pointers.

Nodaway Valley 67, East Union 52

AFTON – Nodaway Valley (8-6) took down East Union (3-11) by 15 in a 67-52 Pride of Iowa final Saturday.

The Wolverines scored 23 in the first quarter to go up seven points. Nodaway Valley continued to outscore the Eagles in each quarter with 19 in the fourth quarter.

For Nodaway Valley, Toby Bower scored 22 points with nine rebounds. Avery Phillippi and Nate Russell scored 15 and 14 points each. Boston DeVault and Russell each tallied six assists.

East Union’s Alex Carrigan and Cale Eklund each scored 15 points to tie for a team-high. Scott Driskill had eight assists, five rebounds and four points.

Martensdale-St Marys 54, Mount Ayr 36

MARTENSDALE – Mount Ayr (11-3) fell to 13-0 Class 1A No. 3 Martensdale-St Marys 54-36 Friday.

The Raiders led 11-3 after the first quarter before a 17-10 Blue Devil second quarter. Martnesdale finished with 34 points in the second half to Mount Ayr’s 15.

Jaixen Frost scored 15 points with four rebounds, three steals and two assists. Erik Trujillo scored nine points.

Lenox 76, Southeast Warren 48

LIBERTY CENTER – Lenox (7-6) rolled through winless Southeast Warren with a 76-48 win Friday.

The Tigers scored 17 in the first quarter before adding 21 points in the second and third quarters.

Keaton England scored 25 points for a team-high. Chase Johnston and Issac Grundman scored 17 and 11 points, respectively.

Southwest Valley 69, East Union 68

AFTON – Southwest Valley (5-9) beat East Union 69-68 Thursday.

Tucker TePoel scored 21 points with eight rebounds. Gabe Fuller grabbed 10 rebounds with eight points.

Earlham 81, Lenox 59

LENOX – Lenox fell to Earlham (5-6) at home Thursday, 81-59.

Earlham opened the game with 24 points to take a 12-point lead. A 30-point third quarter gave the Cardinals all they needed to seal the win.

England scored 15 points, and Samson Adams put up 14 points.
