Panther softball splits doubleheader

DENISON–

Two runs in the seventh inning gave Denison-Schleswig a 7-5 win in the first game of a doubleheader over Creston Thursday in Denison. The Panthers came back to win game two.

In game one, Creston tied the score at 5 in the sixth inning. Sophie Hagle got on base because of an error and Jersey Foote also reached base. They moved along the bases during Gracie Hagle’s and Peyton Rice’s time at the plate. Hagle and Foote would eventually score.

Denison-Schleswig ended the game on a two-run home run by Hannah Slater.

Creston finished with 11 hits. Halle Evans had three hits and a RBI. Gracie Hagle and Rice each ahd two hits. Rice had a RBI. Morgan Driskell, Neveah Randall, Jacy Kralik and Jersey Foote also had hits.

Keely Coen pitched game one and allowed 11 hits, walked three and struck out three.

In game two, Creston came out fast with a 5-0 lead after two innings on its way to a 10-3 win.

The Panthers scored two in the first and three in the second and third innings. Gracie Hagle scored in each of those innings. Sophie Hagle scored in the second and third innings.

Denison-Schleswig’s first two runs were in its half of the third.

The Panthers finished with 18 hits lead by Peyton Rice and Sophie Hagle, who each had three. Gracie Hagle, Morgan Driskell, Halle Evans and Jersey Foote each had two hits. Driskell had a home run in sixth inning.

Peyton Rice finished with four RBIs. Driskell and Evans each had two RBIs.

Taryn Fredrickson pitched the entire game and got the win giving up 10 hits. She struck out four.

Creston (19-11) plays Glenwood in the regional tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 8 in Creston.
