Southwestern names new softball coach

From Southwestern Community College

After a season as the assistant coach for the Southwestern Community College softball program, Casey-May Huff is moving into the head coaching position for the Spartans’ 2021-22 run.

Huff is replacing Nick Weinmeister, who is stepping aside as head coach after three years to pursue athletic administration full time at Southwestern. Prior to this move, Weinmeister had been balancing his assistant athletic director position in addition to coaching.

During Huff’s first year with the Spartan program, the team ended with a record of 28-33-1 and a conference record of 21-23. The Spartans had a 14-12 record on their home field and had 81 home runs for the year.

During the post-season, the team garnered four Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) First Team All-Region selections. Three additional student-athletes received second-team honors. In addition, infielder Kaitlyn Schad of Norwalk was recognized as the Offensive Player of the Year for the conference.

Huff is very familiar with the level of competitiveness within the ICCAC, competing her first two collegiate seasons at Iowa Central Community College before transferring to Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas. At Iowa Central, she received Second Team All-Conference honors as a freshman and First Team All-Conference honors as a sophomore. She also garnered All-Conference recognition at Abilene Christian.

Huff earned her master’s degree in communications and her bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with a concentration in sport and recreation management from Abilene Christian University. During her time at Abilene Christian, she served as an academic coach, an adjunct instructor, a graduate assistant softball coach, an athletic office intern, and was a graduate assistant in the communications department.

In addition to coaching, Huff is a residence hall coordinator and an adjunct instructor, teaching the College Experience, SkillsUSA, and HSED classes.
