Steven C. Lamer, 41, of Creston, was taken into custody April 6, on Park Road in Diagonal for the charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense.

According to a Ringgold County report, at approximately 7:15 p.m. reports were received from campers at Fogle Lake of a man behaving oddly who was camping under the bridge at the lake. The male, identified as Lamer, was located and agreed to talk with deputies. Lamer said he had walked from Creston after having an arguement with his wife. He told deputies he would be heading back to Creston and agreed to take a ride from law enforcement there.

Before getting in the patrol unit, Lamer was asked if he had any weapon on him or in his belongings. Lamer stated he had two knives. Deputies asked Lamer if he would consent to a search of his person, and he said they could but it would be a waste of time. Lamer was then asked to empty his pockets; he complied, putting the contents on the hood of the patrol car. One item, an empty candy container was labeled “In case of emergencies.” Inside the container was a small baggie with a crystal-like substance inside. Lamer claimed he had found the container on the side of the road. He admitted to writing on the container but continued to say he did not know what the substance was.

The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine. After being taken into custody and read his Miranda warning, Lamer admitted he had used methamphetamine within the previous 24 hours. When he was asked about how often he used the drug, he stated he only uses it in “emergencies.”

Lamer was transported to the Ringgold County Jail and held on a $1,000 cash-only bond.
