Adair Co. Arrests: Father arrested after 9 y.o. child seriously injured in drunk driving accident

Gunner M. Namanny, 18, of Anita, was taken into custody at 5:07 a.m., March 23 at the intersection of 250th and Delta Avenue in Bridgewater on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to an Adair County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 2:53 a.m., dispatch notified deputies of a vehicle in the ditch near the intersection of 250th and Delta Avenue in Adair County with its headlights still on.

Upon arrival, officers saw a man, identified as Namanny, in the driver’s seat with the vehicle still in drive and the radio volume very loud. It took several minutes for the deputy to wake Namanny. After he exited the vehicle, the deputy observed bloodshot, watery eyes, impaired balance and slurred speech. Namanny seemed disoriented and confused and appeared to have urinated in his pants.

Deputies observed multiple open containers of alcohol on the passenger floorboard. Namanny consented to field sobriety testing including a PBT. He was then transferred to the Adair County Jail where he submitted a sample in the DataMaster, resulting in a BrAC of .212.

He was released from the Adair County Jail after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Shyla M. Waldhauser, 26, of Orient, was taken into custody at 12:42 p.m., March 26 in the 3000 block of Lewis Avenue on an Adair County warrant for the charges of domestic abuse assault - impeding air/blood flow causing injury and false imprisonment.

According to an Adair County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 9:30 p.m., March 15, Adair County dispatch took a report of a domestic incident being reported by a third party, stating her ex-husband and father of her children was being assaulted by his girlfriend, later identified as Waldhauser, somewhere in either Orient or Fontanelle. She explained he was being assaulted and had called her on the phone.

Deputies spoke with the victim who said he had been at his girlfriend’s parents’ house when an argument started. During the argument, Waldhauser was blocking the doorway to stop him from leaving her bedroom. The victim described being choked by a “rear naked choke” which caused him to start seeing stars. While on the phone with the victim, he did not know if he had any marks or injuries. The victim also said Waldhauser had been drinking.

While on the phone with the victim, Adair County EMS and Orient first responders were dispatched to the 3000 block of Lewis Avenue for a female that had overdosed. The deputy noticed the age and address sounded like Waldhauser’s so he followed to the hospital.

Once Waldhauser was stable, she said she and the victim had an argument but denied any physical contact occurring. She had no injuries apart from those from medical care.

When speaking to the victim in person, the deputy observed a red mark on his forehead near his hairline, bruises on both of his upper arms and redness on his neck — all consistent with the physical assault he described Waldhauser committing against him. Other than being choked, the victim described Waldhauser punching him in the head with a closed fist and grabbing his upper arms. In his written statement, he said he was hit 12 times.

The victim was able to get away when Waldhauser’s dad stopped the fight. He provided video recordings of the phone call he made to his ex-wife during the assault. The victim could be heard in the recording pleading for her to let him leave, but she would not.

Waldhauser was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after posting $7,000 cash or surety bond.

Amanda M. Guzinski, 43, of Stuart, was taken into custody at 10:34 p.m., March 25 on South Division Street in Stuart on a warrant for tampering with a witness, a Class C felony.

According to a Stuart Police report, on March 21, officers were contacted about a message sent by Guzinski. The victim identified himself as a witness in an investigation conducted by the Stuart Police Department that resulted in a search warrant at a residence Guzinski resides at. The search warrant resulted in charges being filed on Guzinski’s significant other.

A Facebook message from Guzinski to the victim was a forwarded YouTube music video from a band called Deuce titled “Story of a Snitch.” The song features lyrics including, “I manned up even though I was backstabbed. Right in the back by my best friend, best friend? Yeah right, click-boom, goodnight. Some say there’s two sides to the story. More like two knives, don’t you worry. Two guys, when we’re done they’ll be buried.”

Guzinski also sent a message stating, “Paper work comes out and we have it.” The victim responded, “Do not text me. Leave me alone.” Guzinski responded, “Not a problem. Stuart is a small town and I am going to make sure everyone sees these papers. I am posting them EVERYWHERE.”

She also sent messages to the victim’s mother. One was a photo of a form from a search warrant executed in Cass County that the victim was also a witness to. The victim’s name had been highlighted with “snitchin bitch-nark-cop-punk” written on it. She sent another message to the mother stating, “I would love to hear your excuse for that. Just know that I know he got my house raided... just know it’s me that is going to make sure he loses everything. F****** snitch.”

Guzinski was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after posting $10,000 cash or surety bond.

Kennier Hernandez-Ramirez, 34, of Orient, was taken into custody at 2:25 p.m., March 27 in the 700 block of Northeast Sixth Street in Greenfield on a warrant for the charges of OWI - first offense, child endangerment causing serious injury and serious injury by vehicle.

According to an Adair County Sheriff’s Office report, at approximately 10:48 p.m. Sept. 13, 2024, deputies were notified of a motor vehicle accident near 310th and Highway 25.

When the deputy arrived on scene, he was advised by two bystanders that there were two people in a Chevrolet Impala in bad shape and one person in a Chevrolet S10 who appeared to be OK. The passenger of the Impala suffered severe head and facial trauma, including damage to his teeth, the roof of his mouth and a deep forehead laceration.

The driver of the S10 didn’t appear to have any injuries and was the only one able to provide a statement about how the accident occurred. He stated he was driving south on Highway 25 when he observed headlights in his lane from a vehicle driving north. He swerved into the northbound lane to avoid collision, but the other vehicle corrected into the northbound lane, causing the vehicles to collide. The marks on the road and vehicles matched up to his description of events.

While the driver of the Impala, identified as Hernandez-Ramirez, was in the ambulance, he admitted he had been drinking. A medic on scene said she could smell the alcohol coming from him. Hernandez-Ramirez and his passenger, identified as his 9-year-old child, were both transported to a hospital by helicopter.

A search warrant for Hernandez-Ramirez’s blood was received on Sept. 26, showing a BAC of .067 nearly five hours after the accident had occurred. A criminologist performed a Retrograde Extrapolation on the blood to determine what his BAC would likely have been at the time the accident occurred. The estimate came back between .182 at the highest and .091 at the lowest.

The child was transported to the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital with a brain bleed. Neither Hernandez-Ramirez nor his child were wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.

The driver of the S10 ended up being transferred to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines because of internal injuries he had suffered including damage to multiple vertebra.

Hernandez-Ramirez was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was held on a $16,000 cash or surety bond.
