Amy L. Whitney, 50, of Creston, was taken into custody 2:02 p.m. March 25, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for the charge of operating while under the influence, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1:49 a.m. Feb. 15, a 2010 Chrysler Sebring was stopped at Ringgold and Maple streets for crossing the centerline, driving in the wrong lane of traffic and failure to wear a seatbelt. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Whitney, who had rapid speech. A passenger in the vehicle was highly intoxicated. When asked if anything illegal was in the vehicle, Whitney said she had a methamphetamine pipe in her wallet.

A probable-cause search was conducted. The pipe Whitney told officers about was located as well as a crystalline substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Whitney admitted to smoking methamphetamine shortly before the stop and said she was at an eight on a scale of one to 10 for being high. She consented to field sobriety testing and was unable to perform any testing involving walking or balance. During seated field sobriety tests numerous validated clues of impairment were shown.

Whitney later consented to provide a urine specimen for chemical testing.

On March 10, a toxicology report from the specimen was received and showed a positive screen for amphetamines. The report further showed a confirmed presence of methamphetamine.

Whitney was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting 10% of a $1,000 cash or surety bond.
