Santos Olivera Martinez, 40, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:36 a.m. March 18, in the 600 block of South Maple Street on a Union County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charge of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense. He was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a Union County District Court document, Martinez was ordered to appear before the court Feb. 21 for arraignment on the original charge and did not.
According to a Creston Police report, a 2008 Jeep Wrangler was stopped at Maple and Page streets for an equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Martinez. Martinez was found to have an active warrant in Union County and subsequently taken into custody.
Martinez gave officers consent to search the Jeep. During the search, a methamphetamine pipe containing residue, which later field tested positive for methamphetamine, was located in a tool box Martinez identified as his.
Martinez was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $1,000 cash only and $300 cash or surety bonds.
