Creston Police report - March 10, 2025

Dennis L. Cook, 33, of Macksburg, was taken into custody 5:50 p.m. March 7, at Sumner Avenue and Spencer Street on the charge of possession of paraphernalia .

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 5:22 p.m. a 2005 Chevrolet Classic was stopped for an equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Cook, who produced a marijuana pipe and handed it to officers.

Cook was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear.

Brandon J. Stone, 31, of Creston, was taken into custody 3:30 p.m. March 8, at Sycamore and Adams streets on a Union County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charges of possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, third or subsequent offense and possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense.

According to Union County District Court documents, Stone was ordered to appear March 7 for sentencing on the original charges and did not appear.

Stone was transported to the Union County Jail where he is being held without bond.

Tyler W. Kimball, 30, of Creston, was taken into custody 5:41 p.m. March 8, at his residence on the charges of domestic abuse assault while displaying a dangerous weapon, first offense; interference with official acts, disorderly conduct - fighting or violent behavior; criminal mischief, fifth degree and a Union County warrant for the charge of failure to appear for court time to a medical facility.

According to a Creston Police report, a domestic dispute was reported in the 500 block of North Elm Street. Officers spoke with the victim who stated Kimball had threatened him with a knife, causing him to be in fear of Kimball. Kimball also caused damage to the victim’s vehicle. Officer’s observed a visible dent from the incident.

While officers were outside attempting to make contact with Kimball, yelling began inside the residence. When officers attempted to handcuff Kimball, he resisted and a struggle with officers ensued.

Kimball was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Maria S. Pantoja, 35, of Afton, was taken into custody 1:58 a.m. March 9, at Elm and Page streets on the charge of OWI, first offense.

No details were available on the charge.

Pantoja was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

William E. Vandel, 63, of Afton, was taken into custody 11:53 p.m. March 9, at Poplar and Taylor streets on the charges of possession of paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense; possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense; OWI, first offense and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:24 p.m. a Buick Lucerne was stopped for an equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Vandel, who appeared impaired. Vandel admitted to smoking marijuana around noon and had large heat bumps on the back of his tongue, indicating he had smoked something out of a pipe.

Vandel consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. ARIDE testing was conducted and Vandel also showed indicators of impairment on those tests. He admitted there was a marijuana pipe in the Buick. Vandel was searched before being placed in a patrol unit and a baggie of a green leafy substance was located on his person. He identified the substance as marijuana.

A probable cause search was conducted on the Buick. A baggie containing a crystalline substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine, a baggie containing psilocybin mushrooms (identified as “magic mushrooms” by Vandel), a marijuana pipe with residue, two methamphetamine pipes with residue, an alprazolam pill and an open bottle of alcohol were found in the vehicle.

Vandel was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he refused to provide a urine specimen for chemical testing.

He was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $5,300 cash or surety bond.
