Brandon Q. Sargent, 21, of Menlo, was taken into custody 10:46 p.m. Jan. 16, on South Division Street in Stuart on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Stuart Police report, at approximately 9:38 p.m. officers observed a 1997 Toyota Avalon southbound on Division Street weaving in its lane and nearly hit the curb on five separate occasions.

A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver, identified as Sargent. He was asked for his license, vehicle registration and insurance which he provided but had difficulty finding and handing to officers. While sitting in the front seat of a patrol unit, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from his person. Sargent also had bloodshot, watery eyes.

Sargent admitted to drinking 12 Busch Lights from approximately 4 to 8 p.m. He consented to field sobriety testing which indicated clues of impairment. A PBT result showed his BrAC to be .206%.

Sargent was transported to the Adair County Jail where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing. The result indicated his BAC to be .185%.

Sargent was released from the Adair County Jail after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
