Creston Police report - Jan. 13, 2025

Erik Speed, 43, of Creston, was taken into custody 9:31 p.m. Jan. 9, in the 800 block of West Mills Street on the charge of assault.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 8:21 p.m. Speed yelled at another male to stop and to get out of the area as the male was leaving a residence on Summit Street. Speed then walked over to the male, an altercation began and Speed struck the male in the face.

Speed was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Lela A. Churchwell, 45, of Creston, was taken into custody 1:20 p.m. Jan. 10, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charge of public intoxication.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1 p.m. Churchwell arrived at the law enforcement center and requested to speak with an officer. While speaking with Churchwell, officers detected the overwhelming odor of alcohol coming from her person.

Churchwell said she had drank a pint of vodka before walking to the law enforcement center. She consented to provide a breath specimen for testing, the result indicated Churchwell to have a BAC of .277%.

Churchwell was transported to the Adams County Jail where she was release from on her own recognizance on a promise to appear.

Christopher P. Stolk, 38, of Creston, was taken into custody 1:46 a.m. Jan. 11, at his residence on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1:20 a.m. a 2003 Ford Ranger was stopped near the intersection of Howard and Jarvis streets for a equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Stolk. Stolk told officers he had drank three beers earlier, with the last one being at midnight.

Stolk consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. He consented to a PBT which showed his BrAC to be above .08%. Stolk was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing, the result of which indicated Stolk to have a BAC of .089%.

Stolk was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Vaughn G. Long, 36, of Alberta, Canada, was taken into custody 2:16 a.m. Jan. 12, at Oak and Irving streets on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1 a.m. officers observed a truck sitting on Oak Street near the intersection, running, with the headlights on and a male in the driver’s seat on his phone. The truck was parked partially on the curb. At approximately 1:43 a.m. officers went back through the area and the male was still in the truck with his head down.

Officers pulled in behind the truck to check the welfare of the male, later identified as Long. They approached the driver’s side and observed the window to be partially down, the radio playing loudly and Long, who appeared to be passed out.

Officers shouted and knocked on the window multiple times before Long woke up. When asked to turn down the radio, Long grabbed the gear shift. Long was told to turn the truck off several times and instead exited the truck and told officers to do it.

Long had bloodshot, watery eyes and the odor of alcohol coming from his person. He said he had “a lot” to drink when asked by officers. Long argued he was not driving when officers made contact with him but also made statements about driving home from the bar earlier. Long consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. A PBT indicated Long to have a BrAC of above .08%.

Long was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing, the result of which indicated his BAC to be .160%.

Long was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Braydon M. Swietlik, 20, of Tingley, was taken into custody 1:44 a.m. Jan. 13, in the 100 block of West Taylor Street on the charge of driving while barred.

According to a Creston Policer report, at approximately 1:34 a.m. Swietlik was observed driving a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu at Taylor and Pine streets. Swietlik has a barred license.

Swietlik was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
