Warren M. Verdell, 38, of Creston, was taken into custody 5:08 p.m. Jan. 8, at 806 Laurel Street on the charge of theft, fifth degree.
According to a Creston Police report, Verdell was an employee of Walmart and stole items ranging from clothing to food, from the store without paying for them. Walmart provided receipts and video footage from Dec. 31 through Jan. 4 of the thefts. Verdell did admit to taking items from Walmart without paying for them.
Verdell was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Wesley C. Smith, 32, of Lenox, was taken into custody 6:35 p.m. Jan. 8, in the 600 block of New York Avenue on the charges of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and driving while suspended.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:08 p.m. officers stopped a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu for a traffic violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Smith, who was found to have a suspended license. After being taken into custody, Smith was searched and a small bag containing a crystalline substance was found in his wallet. The substance later field tested positive for methamphetamine.
Smith was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond. He was cited and released on a summons to appear for the driving while suspended charge.

Yasmin R. Banda, 34, of Creston, was taken into custody 6:09 p.m. Jan. 8, in the 600 block of New York Avenue on the charge of possession of a controlled substance - cocaine, first offense.
According to a Creston Police report, Banda was a passenger in a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu stopped for a traffic violation. During the stop, Creston Police K-9 Baxo was deployed for a free-air sniff around the vehicle and provided a positive alert for the odor of narcotics.
A probable cause search was conducted and a small amount of cocaine was located in Banda’s purse.
Banda was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where she was cited and released on a summons to appear.
