Sawyer E. Hensley, 19, of Nodaway, was taken into custody 8:57 p.m. Jan. 1, in the 3300 block of Highway 25, on the charges possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession of alcohol.
According to an Adair County report, at approximately 8:28 p.m. Adair County EMS and Orient Rescue personnel requested law enforcement after family members of a female rescue was called for advised there was a male at the residence as well, who was not supposed to be there.
Deputies determined the female was housesitting and had invited the male, later identified as Hensley, over. The female’s father suspected some sort of drug use.
Hensley told deputies the female had picked him up in Creston and brought him to the home. He admitted he brought a bottle of Crown Royal blackberry whiskey, taken from his roommate, with him to the residence. The female confirmed the story and stated nothing else had gone on.
As deputies were getting ready to leave the residence, a container containing THC products was observed on the kitchen counter where the female and medical personnel had been standing. Hensley was asked about the container and admitted it was his and had fallen out of his backpack.
Hensley was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear.

Christopher M. Smith, 32, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 11:05 p.m. Jan. 4, in Stuart on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense and possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.
According to a Stuart Police report, at approximately 9:30 p.m. a 2005 Chevrolet Suburban pulling a car trailer without lights or a registration plate on the trailer, was observed in the 700 block of South Division Street. The Suburban pulled into the Casey’s General Store parking lot, where officers had a consensual encounter with the driver, identified as Smith.
Smith said the trailer was homemade and he had purchased it approximately one month ago. While speaking with Smith, officers looked through the rear window of the vehicle and observed a small plastic bag tied in a knot with a small ball shape at the end on the floor under the rear of the driver’s seat. It appeared to contain a white powder substance.
A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. The baggie observed by officers was first to be seized and field tested positive for methamphetamine. In a pouch attached to the backside of the passenger seat, a methamphetamine pipe containing residue and a baggie containing methamphetamine were located. A marijuana cigarette was located in a cubbyhole in the dash of the Suburban.
Smith was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,300 cash or surety bond.

Tyler L. Carter, 33, of Adair, was taken into custody 7:44 p.m. Jan. 4, in the 600 block of 6th Street in Adair on the charge of domestic abuse assault -causing injury or mental illness, first offense.
According to an Adair Police report, at approximately 6:41 p.m. officers responded to a reported domestic assault. The victim told officers she and Carter had been arguing, which turned into a shouting match. The victim had locked Carter out of the residence but when she opened the door up for him, he placed her into a choke hold. The victim believed her head had hit the door when she was pulled outside by Carter.
A neighbor saw Carter assaulting the victim and ran over to the residence, pointed a handgun at Carter and told him to release the victim. Carter complied. The victim went to the neighbor’s house but returned home for a change of clothes as she had urinated herself while being choked. The victim told officers she never felt like she couldn’t breathe during the assault.
Carter told officers he didn’t know how the victim sustained the injury to her head.
Carter was transported to the Adair County Jail and held on $1,000 cash or surety bond.
