Brodie W. Starlin, 23, of Creston, was taken into custody 9:32 p.m. Nov. 21, at his residence on the charges of OWI, first offense, reckless driving, failure to provide proof of financial liability - accident and striking an unattended vehicle.
According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 9:15 p.m. a hit and run accident was reported in the 500 block of North Maple Street. A vehicle had struck a parked SUV and a garage, causing severe damage and left the scene.
The residents of the property followed a trail of fluids from the scene to a residence on North Elm Street, where a 2014 Dodge Ram, belonging to Starlin, was parked and leaking a large amount of coolant. The Ram had severe damage to the passenger side of the truck and the tire was off of the rim on that side. The truck’s engine was still warm. An empty box of Busch Light was observed in the backseat of the truck.
Officers knocked on the door of the residence, which was left open. Starlin came to the door and had heavily slurred speech, bloodshot, watery eyes, impaired balance and a strong odor of a consumed alcoholic beverage coming from his breath. Starlin made admissions to driving the truck but did not remember where he had driven from. Starlin had no recollection of the accident and did not know what day it was.
Starlin refused all field sobriety testing and refused to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing.
Starlin was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from on $1,900 cash bond.
