Roberto Barrera, 27, of McAllen, Texas, was taken into custody Oct. 14, on Highway 25, on the charges of OWI, first offense; possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a Union County report, at approximately 10:48 p.m. deputies stopped a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado for speeding near 130th Street. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Barrera, and a strong odor of marijuana was detected coming from the truck. Barrera admitted to having a marijuana pipe in the tuck, which was located in the in a cup holder in the front seat.

A probable cause search of the truck was conducted. The pipe which contained residue, Swisher Sweet packaging material containing a roach and marijuana shake were located in the truck. Barrera admitted he had smoked about an hour before driving his truck. He consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. He also consented to drug recognition testing and admitted to regularly using marijuana.

Barrera was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,300 cash or surety bond.

Daniel G. Goodemote, 43, of Thayer, was taken into custody Oct. 14, at Douglas and Iowa streets in Afton, on the charges of driving while suspended, driving while license denied or revoked, operate without interlock and operate non-registered vehicle.

According to a Union County report, at approximately 3:21 p.m. a 2007 Chevrolet Trailblazer was stopped for a traffic violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Goodemote, who told deputies he did not have a license. After running his information, it was discovered Goodemote’s license was revoked for an OWI conviction. Goodemote is also required to have an interlock device in his vehicle and SR22 insurance, which he failed to have.

Goodemote was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,300 csh or surety bond.
