Carlos I. Cortez, 28, of Creston, was taken into custody Oct. 8, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on a Union County warrant for the charges of harassment, first degree and stalking.

According to a Creston Police report, between Sept. 17 and Oct. 8, Cortez threatened a male victim, stating he would have him “taken out” and threatened to have others assault or kill him. Cortez also sent threatening messages concerning the victim and posted a picture of the victim and a minor child on social media encouraging others to harass him.

The actions of Cortez have put the victim in fear of being assaulted or killed. Cortez has continued to place himself where the victim is and make threatening statements on social media. Cortez threatened the male in the presence of officers, saying he would make a phone call and have the victim taken care of. His conduct has continued to escalate over the past month and has resulted in the victim’s car being damaged by Cortez.

Cortez was transported to the Union County Jail and held without bond until seen by a magistrate.
