Creston Police report - Sept. 18, 2024

Curtis L. LaMasters, 40, of Creston, was taken into custody 5 p.m. Sept. 17, at Maple and Prairie streets on a Union County warrant for the charge of domestic abuse assault, first offense. LaMasters was additionally charged with interference with official acts and public intoxication.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 5:13 p.m. Sept. 16, LaMasters assaulted a female at his residence by pushing her to the ground and hitting her head with a door.

When LaMasters was located walking on a public street and taken into custody. He consented to a PBT, which indicated his BrAC at .235%. While being processed at the law enforcement center, LaMasters slipped his left handcuff and walked toward the dispatch center LaMasters ignored officer commands to return to the processing room. Eventually he did go back to the room and was handcuffed again but continued to attempt to remove the handcuffs.

LaMasters was transported to the Union County Jail and held without bond until his initial appearance.

Vicki J. Abell, 67, of Indianola, was taken into custody 7:10 p.m. Sept. 17, at Highway 34 and Patriotic Parkway on a Union County warrant for the charge of OWI, first offense. She was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 11:53 p.m. July 21, a 1998 Chevrolet S10 for failing to have trailer lights and crossing the center line. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Abell, who was observed to be sweating profusely and making fast and rigid movements. An Adams County K-9 was deployed for a free air sniff and gave a positive alert to the odor of narcotics coming from the truck. A probable cause search resulted in locating narcotics and paraphernalia.

Abell refused consent to field sobriety testing and consented to one ARIDE test which showed indicators of impairment. She was transported to the law enforcement center where she consented to provide a urine sample for chemical testing. The lab result, received Aug. 23, showed a positive screen for amphetamines and a confirmed presence of methamphetamine.

After being taken into custody on the warrant, a search of Abell’s person resulted in locating two baggies of a white crystalline substance. The substance field tested positive for methamphetamine.

Abell was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
