Valen R. McKown, 26, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:15 a.m. Sept. 17, on the charges of OWI, second offense and driving while suspended.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Sept. 16, a 2008 Nissan Sentra was stopped on Oak Street for having non-operating license plate lamps. Contact was made with the driver, identified as McKown, who was discovered to have a suspended license. Open containers were observed in the Sentra. McKown admitted to consuming alcohol prior to the traffic stop and the odor of alcohol was detected coming from her person.

McKown consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment. ARIDE testing was also conducted. McKown refused to take a PBT. McKown was transported to the law enforcement center for further testing where she consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing. The test result indicated McKown to have a BAC of .145%.

McKown has a previous OWI conviction from November 2022 in Adair County.

McKown was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,300 cash or surety bond.
