Creston Police report - Sept. 16, 2024

Melody A. Miller, 59, of Creston, was taken into custody at 6:08 p.m. Sept. 13, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on two Union County warrants for the charges of animal neglect resulting in serious injury or death and animal neglect with no serious injury or death.

According to Creston Police reports, on Sept. 10, officers were called to Miller’s residence for reported animal neglect. While at the residence they observed two animals, one of which was deceased. Miller had confined both animals and failed to provide adequate food, water and sanitary conditions causing unjustified pain, distress and suffering to one animal and resulted in the death of the second.

Miller was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,300 cash or surety bond.

Brice A. Maxwell, 34, of Creston, was taken into custody 3:24 p.m. Sept. 14, in the 500 block of North Maple Street on a Union County warrant for the charge of criminal mischief, third degree and was additionally charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 7:15 a.m. Aug. 30, police were notified Maxwell, who had been evicted from a residence in the 500 block of Irving Street, was back at the residence and the home had been vandalized with spray paint. Officers went to the location and spoke with Maxwell who said he had been there since the early morning hours and had no where else to go. Maxwell was observed to have faint blue marks on his hands and acted very defensively while speaking to officers.

After Maxwell was told to leave, officers walked around the residence and observed approximately $1,078 in damage to the property with blue paint. They also found that a stop sign was painted with blue paint, causing $157.13 in damage. Officers spoke with the homeowner who stated they wanted to have charges pressed.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 3 p.m. Sept. 14, officers made contact with Maxwell at an apartment building and had knowledge of an active warrant for his arrest. Maxwell was taken into custody on the warrant and was being searched when he began stomping on his bag which was laying on the ground. Officers stopped him, searched the bag and located a glass pipe used to smoke methamphetamine. Maxwell later told jail staff he was attempting to break the pipe to avoid being charged.

Maxwell was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Nickie R. Stovie, 60, of Creston, was taken into custody 12:14 p.m. Sept. 15, in the 300 block of North Maple Street on the charges of violation of no contact/protective order; theft, fifth degree and disorderly conduct.

According to a Creston Police report, in a 24-hour time period between Sept. 14 and Sept. 15, a female, identified as Stovie, had been reported eight times walking around the area yelling and causing disturbances. The last report included Stovie attempting to get into an apartment causing the caller to fear for their safety. When officers arrived at the location, Stovie was still being very loud and attempted to take cat food from the porch of the apartment in front of officers, for her cat. The resident of the apartment had an active no contact/protective order against Stovie.

Stovie was transported to the Adams County Jail and held on $900 cash or surety bond.

Erick A. Fuentes Chavez, 19, of Lomita, California, was taken into custody 10:23 p.m. Sept. 15, in the 400 block of East Townline Street on a Union County warrant for the charge of OWI, first offense, he was additionally charged with possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 9:47 p.m. June 20, officers stopped a 2010 Dodge Ram at Highway 25 and Adair Street for traveling 23 mph above the posted speed limit. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Fuentes Chavez, who was very lethargic and speaking slowly. He also had bloodshot and glassy eyes, droopy eyelids and dilated pupils. The odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle.

Fuentes Chavez refused all standard field sobriety tests and some ARIDE tests. During the ARIDE tests he consented to officers observed numerous indicators of impairment. He consented to provide a urine sample for chemical testing. A toxicology report, received July 18, showed a positive screen for marijuana metabolites.

On Sept. 15, after being taken into custody on the warrant, Fuentes Chavez was searched and two vape pens were located on his person. He admitted both pens contained THC.

Fuentes Chavez was transported to the Union County Jail where he was reelased from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Christopher G. Selvy, 22, of Creston, was taken into custody 2:52 a.m. Sept. 16, at Elm and Monroe streets on the charge of driving while revoked.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 2:16 a.m. officers stopped a 1994 Chevrolet S10 pickup for failing to have working taillights. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Selvy, who told officers he did not have a drivers license and was just getting food. Selvy’s information was ran through dispatch and confirmed he had a revoked license.

Selvy was cited and released from the scene on a summons to appear.
