Daniel L. McDowell, 22, of Creston, was served at 8:51 a.m. Aug. 16, while being held in the Union County Jail on a Union County warrant for the charge of violation of probation.

According to an Iowa Department of Correctional Services report, Oct. 29, 2021, McDowell was granted a deferred judgement with three years probation after being convicted of burglary, third degree and theft, second degree in Union County. On Aug. 15, McDowell was questioned by police regarding an incident involving a firearm he admitted being in possession of. McDowell is not allowed to possess firearms while on probation supervision. McDowell was subsequently charged with attempted murder.

McDowell continues to be held in the Union County Jail without bond.

Tania P. Hernandez, 30, of Creston, was taken into custody 3:31 p.m. Aug. 17, in the 300 block of North Walnut Street on the charges of disorderly conduct and public intoxication.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 3:04 p.m. a fight between two females was reported. When officers arrived at the scene, witnesses said one of the females, later identified as Hernandez had run south through an alley and showed them a video of the fight, which showed Hernandez as the primary aggressor. Hernandez was also very intoxicated during the incident.

Hernandez was transported to the Union County Jail where she was released from after posting $600 cash or surety bond.

Rogelio Olivera-Martinez, 31, of Creston, was taken into custody 6:38 p.m. Aug. 17, in the 800 block of South Walnut Street on the charge of violation of a protective order and two Union County warrants, both for the charge of failure to appear. The first for the original charges of burglary, first degree, domestic abuse assault and criminal mischief, fourth degree; the second for the original charges of public intoxication and interference with official acts.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 6:01 p.m. motel staff reported a male at the the property who was refusing to leave a room. Officers spoke with staff and identified the male as Olivera-Martinez, who was known to have multiple warrants. When contact was made with Olivera-Martinez, he was on the phone with a female who identified herself as a protected party in an active protection order against Olivera-Martinez.

According to Union County District Court documents, Olivera-Martinez was ordered to appear July 12 and July 23 for pretrial conferences on the original charges and did not appear.

Olivera-Martinez was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $5,600 cash only bond and $300 cash or surety bond.
