Creston Police report - Aug. 5, 2024

Ryan J. Corder, 29, of Storm Lake, was taken into custody 6:35 p.m. Aug. 2, at 806 Laurel Street on two counts of theft, third degree.

According to a Creston Police report, Walmart reported a theft in progress and gave both a suspect description and the suspect’s vehicle description. When officers arrived at the store, they observed the vehicle leaving the parking lot. A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver, identified as Corder. Corder was escorted back in the store by officers. Footage showed Corder on two separate occasions during the day, exit the store with multiple boxes of baseball cards. The total amount of items taken was $1,1016.62.

Corder was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $4,000 cash or surety.

Kevin W. Wessel, 31, of Creston, was taken into custody 1:27 a.m. Aug. 3, at the Union County Law Enforcement Center on the charges of public intoxication, interference with official acts, possession of drug paraphernalia and criminal mischief, fifth degree.

According to a Creston Police report, a large group of people were observed congregated outside of a bar on Adams Street. Witnesses stated some individuals had been attempting to start an altercation. A male, later identified as Wessel, was seen walking away from the area in a public alleyway and was hiding behind trash.

While speaking with Wessel, the odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected emitting from his breath and he had slurred speech. When officers attempted to detain Wessel, he resisted. After being transported to the law enforcement center, Wessel made statements about consuming alcohol but refused a PBT. A search of his person produced a THC vape pen. While at the law center Wessel slammed his head into the wall causing damage under $300. Wessel was observed to be extremely agitated, yelling periodically and then becoming emotional. An officer sustained a small cut on the hand while attempting to detain Wessel.

Wessel was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,200 cash or surety bond.

Brian J. Ferry, 40, of Gowrie, was taken into custody 1:05 a.m. Aug. 4, at Cromwell Road and Highway 34 on the charge of driving while suspended.

According to a Creston Police report, Ferry was the driver of a 2011 Kia Sportage stopped by officers. Ferry was discovered to have a suspended license.

Ferry was cited and released at the scene on a summons to appear.

Anthony R. Cross, 33, of Creston, was taken into custody 10:28 p.m. Aug. 4, at Division and Levy streets on the charge of burglary, third degree.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 7:02 p.m. officers responded to a burglary in progress in the 500 block of Levy Street. When they arrived, the house was cleared and no one was found inside. The burglary was caught on camera. Footage shows a male, identified as Cross, entering the residence. A door on the east side of the home was pried open to gain access. Several items were taken from inside the home. Cross was later seen in the area, still wearing the same clothes he was seen wearing in the video.

Cross was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $5,000 cash or surety bond.
