Kayla D. Herring, 32, of Bridgewater, was taken into custody 10:42 p.m. Aug. 2, in the 200 block of West Walnut Street in Bridgewater, on the charges of theft, fourth degree and driving under suspension.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 10:09 p.m. a Bridgewater resident reported witnessing a female, later identified as Herring, steal a go-kart from a neighbor’s residence. The owner of the go-kart, who had been out of town, was able to identify Herring and confirmed she did not have permission to remove the go-kart from the property.

The witness told deputies Herring had walked to the residence and tried to start the go-kart when she was yelled at to leave it alone and that it wasn’t hers. Herring told deputies she thought the residents had moved and she took the go-kart for safe keeping in case the owners came back to get it. She confirmed she had drove it a short distance before pushing it home. Herring has a suspended license.

Herring was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
