Steven L. Sweney, 63, of Elkhorn, Nebraska, was taken into custody 7:48 p.m. July 21, on Interstate 80 for the charge of OWI, first offense.
According to an Iowa Department of Natural Resources report, at approximately 5:48 p.m. a conservation officer was requested to check on the welfare of the a 2011 Toyota Corolla reported to be pulled over near mile marker 77 of eastbound I-80. Prior to pulling over, the Toyota had been reported for driving recklessly, swerving all over the road and almost hitting a guard rail and other vehicles.
Officers located the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Sweney, who had a difficult time turning off the music in the car and rolling down the window. Sweney had slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person.
Sweney consented to field sobriety testing and showed clues of impairment on every test. A PBT indicated Sweney had a BrAC of over .08%.
Sweney was transported to the Adair County Jail where he consented to provide a breath specimen for chemical testing, the result of which indicated a BAC of .172%.
Sweney was released from the Adair County Jail after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Tommy W. Watters, 48, of Lorimor, was taken into custody 9:52 p.m. July 24, in the 3100 block of Henry A. Wallace Road on the charge of driving while barred.
According to an Adair County report, at approximately 9:23 p.m. a 2000 Chevrolet K2500 was stopped for not having license plates and an inoperable driver’s side taillight. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Watters and a passenger, who claimed ownership of the truck but could not provide a title or insurance. Watters admitted to having a barred license, which deputies confirmed.
Watters was cited and released on a summons to appear. He was additionally issued written warnings for improper rear lamps and failure to provide proof of insurance.

Robert C. Hughes, 53, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 7:19 a.m. July 26, at the Adair County Sheriff’s Office on an Adair County warrant for two counts of sex offender - area/activity violation, first offense.
According to a Greenfield Police report, Hughes entered the Nodaway Valley Elementary School twice on April 10, without written permission to be on school grounds from the Nodaway Valley School administration.
Hughes was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Ryan J. Cook II, 20, of Adair, was taken into custody 2:20 p.m. July 26, at the Adair County Sheriff’s Office on an Adair County warrant for the charge of domestic abuse assault - injury or mental illness, first offense.
According to an Adair County report, at approximately 2:24 a.m. July 16, deputies were called to an Adair residence for a domestic disturbance. When they arrived, they observed a male, identified as Cook, standing outside. A female, later identified as the victim, came outside after deputies arrived.
The victim wanted to be taken to a family member’s residence and told deputies she could show them marks but didn’t want to, stating Cook “didn’t deserve this.” When asked if he had put his hands on the victim, Cook stated he had marks too. Cook told deputies the victim had grabbed his genitals and he had a mark on his neck from a previous incident, which he said had gone away.
Cook admitted if the victim had marks they were from him pushing her. The victim admitted to deputies Cook had pushed her several times and was the aggressor in attempt to get her to try to hit him. The victim had visible injuries including scrapes to both shins.
Information from the incident was discussed with the Adair County Attorney and the decision to charge Cook was made.
Cook was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Larry D. Yeager, 36, of Anita, was taken into custody 3:17 a.m. July 27, near mile marker 93 of Interstate 80 on the charges of possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense and possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to a Stuart Police report, at approximately 2:02 a.m. officers stopped a 2015 Chevrolet Silverado with dealership plates. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Yeager. The odor of raw marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle. Yeager admitted to possessing a marijuana pipe, a THC vape and approximately one ounce of marijuana and told officers where the items were located.
A probable cause search of the Silverado was conducted and resulted in officers locating all items Yeager mentioned.
Yeager was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was cited and released on a summons to appear.
