Amanda D. Ruchti, 34, of Fontanelle, was taken into custody 8:50 p.m. Jan. 11 on the charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to maintain control.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 8:10 p.m. Oct. 10, deputies responded to a single vehicle accident at Fontanelle Road and 220th Street. The driver, identified as Ruchti, was trapped in a 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier and required extrication by the Fontanelle Fire Department.

Several members of the fire department stated Ruchti and the inside of the vehicle smelled strongly of marijuana, and while extricating her, observed a pipe on the floor of the Cavalier. After Ruchti was removed from the Cavalier, deputies completed a search of the car and seized a marijuana pipe with burnt marijuana residue and a vape pen containing THC.

Ruchti was cited and released on a summons to appear.

Chutaia Brown, 29, of Des Moines, was taken into custody 4:09 p.m. Jan. 13 in the 1000 block of Pinewood Avenue near Menlo, on the charges of OWI, second offense, child endangerment and driving while suspended.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 3:11 p.m. a trooper observed a 2006 Chevrolet Impala stuck south of Interstate 80. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Brown, was shoveling snow from around the Cavalier. A 17-year-old and 7-year-old were passengers in the vehicle.

When contact was made with Brown, she appeared confused and didn’t make sense. Brown had the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person and bloodshot eyes. Brown told troopers she had consumed a wine cooler.

She was transported to the Stuart Fire Department for field sobriety testing, which indicated several clues of impairment. Brown consented to provide a breath speciman for chemical testing at the Adair County Sheriff’s Office. The result indicated a BAC of .109%

Brown was found to have a suspended license and a prior OWI conviction in August 2022 in Polk County.

Brown was transported to the Adair County Jail where she was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
