Niels C. Mikkelsen, 45, of Orient, was taken into custody 3:49 a.m. Dec. 17 in Orient on the charge of OWI, second offense.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 1:53 a.m. deputies observed a 2006Buick LaCrosse westbound on 310th Street traveling 65 mph in a 55 mph zone. A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, identified as Mikkelsen, who avoiding facing the deputy during the interaction and took a while to provide provide proof of insurance. The odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from Mikkelsen’s person. He said he had only been drinking Gatorade several times but when he briefly looked at deputies, he was observed to have watery, blood shot eyes.

Mikkelsen consented to field sobriety testing and consented to a PBT, the result of which was over .08%. He was transported to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office and given time to contact an attorney after requesting to do so, but argued with deputies over how much time was available to him. Mikkelsen was told his time was up multiple times and continued to argue and ask questions instead of making a decision on consenting or refusing the chemical test offered to him. Deputies took his lack of decision and action as a refusal of the test.

Mikkelsen was convicted Feb. 25, 2022, in Union County of an OWI, making this a second offense. He was released from the Adair County Jail after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Daniel A. Anderson, 45, of Adair, was taken into custody 11:06 p.m. Dec. 18 in Adair on a Saint Clair County, Alabama, warrant for the charge of probation revocation, on the original charge of dangerous drugs.

According to an Adair Police report, during the week of Dec. 11 officers were dispatched an Adair residence for a disturbance in which Anderson was named as an involved party. When officers arrived, Anderson had already left the residence but his information was ran for report purposes and he was found to have a fully extraditable warrant from a county in Alabama.

At approximately 10:07 p.m. Dec. 18 officers observed a white car pull into Casey’s General Store in Adair which a male exited. The vehicle was recognized from the previous call and Anderson was recognized as the male who had left the residence. Officers made consensual contact with Anderson, confirmed his identity and confirmed the warrant from Alabama.

Anderson was transported to the Adair County jail and held without bond awaiting transport by Alabama authorities.

Duane E. Sickles, 59, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 7:31 p.m. Dec. 22 in Greenfield on a Polk County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charge of probation violation.

According to Polk County District Court documents, Sickles was to appear Nov. 7, 2022, in Polk County on the original charge and did not.

Sickles was released to the custody of Polk County and held in Polk County Jail without bond until his initial appearance.
