Xander Geeting, 18, of Creston, was taken into custody 2:24 p.m. Dec. 1 at his residence on a Union County warrant for the charges of two counts of child endangerment - serious injury.

According to a Creston Police report, on Oct. 19 Creston Police were made aware of a two-month-old baby being transferred by LifeFlight from Greater Regional Hospital to Blank Children’s Hospital in Des Moines due to a head injury. Officers established Geeting was in sole custody and care of the baby when the injury occurred.

Geeting told officers that he was angry about cleaning the house and having a fussy child around and angrily picked up the baby from the swing it was in, which created a substantial risk to the physical, mental or emotional health or safety of the baby. While removing the baby from the swing, Geeting said the baby struck its head on the corner of the TV stand.

Geeting admitted he picked the baby up “fast and too aggressively” and the baby hit its head with “quite a bit of force” on the stand. The baby’s health began declining during the evening of Oct. 17, but he failed to seek medical care for the baby until Oct. 19, knowing the baby had sustained a serious injury and his condition declined only after the injury occurred. By the time medical attention was sought, the child was fully unresponsive.

Geeting was transported to the Union County Jail and held on $20,000 cash or surety bond.
