Taylor J. Edelman, 31, of Adair, was taken into custody 10:03 p.m. Nov. 6, at 11th and Cedar streets on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to an Adair Police report, at approximately 8:38 p.m. police were notified of an altercation taking place at the Dance Studio. It was reported a big Chevrolet truck had shown up at the studio, a male, who appeared intoxicated, got out of the vehicle and was having an argument with his ex-girlfriend.

As officers arrived at the studio, a truck matching the description was pulling on to Broad Street from the studio. When officers turned around the truck sped up, turned sharply onto 11th Street and accelerated its tires, causing it to kick up visible dust and gravel.

A traffic stop was initiated. While pulling over, officers observed the driver, later identified as Edelman, grab something from the center console and place it in the back seat area. When officers approached the truck, a plastic cup with liquid in it, was seen sitting on the rear floor board. While speaking with Edelman a strong odor of alcohol was detected and he he had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech. While Edelman was seated in a patrol vehicle, a stronger odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from his person.

Edelman consented to field sobriety testing, which indicated impairment. Edelman blew over the legal limit in a PBT test. Edelman then told officers the drink on the floor board was “maybe a mixed drink.”

Edelman was transported to the Adair County Jail where he consented to provide a breath sample for testing. The result of which, indicated a BAC of .201%.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 12:45 a.m. law enforcement was notified of a female, identified as Ott, who had walked away from the hospital which had a confirmed 48-hour committal hold.
