Lenox teen charged after Sunday rollover accident

A Lenox teenager was charged with OWI and other offenses following a one-vehicle rollover accident Sunday in Adams County.

According to Adams County reports, at approximately 8:41 a.m Adams County was notified of a rollover accident near the intersection of Highway 34 and Willow Avenue. When deputies arrived, they observed a heavily damaged 2013 Dodge Dart in the west ditch. Witnesses stated the Dart was traveling at a high rate of speed and passing in no passing zones. The driver, later identified as Jesus Ramirez, 18, of Lenox, lost control of Dart and the vehicle rolled at least twice before coming to rest on its tires.

Deputies attempted to speak with Ramirez at the scene but were unable, due to a language barrier. He was observed to have watery, glossy eyes and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his person. He did tell deputies he did not have his ID but when he opened his wallet, it fell on the ground. While standing near the patrol car, Ramirez had difficulty maintaining his balance and swayed back and forth.

Ramirez was transported by ambulance to the hospital for minor injuries. While at the hospital, using a friend as a translator, he refused PBT testing. He also refused to provide a urine or blood sample for chemical testing. He was released from the hospital that afternoon, to the care of a sober friend.

At approximately 12:20 p.m. Nov. 7, Ramirez, who was the passenger of a vehicle stopped by the Adams County Sheriff, was taken into custody on the charges of OWI, first offense and reckless driving. He was cited for no valid drivers license. Ramirez was released from the Adams County Jail after posting $1,000 cash bond.

Adams County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Adams County Fire Department, Adams County Ambulance, Prescott Fire Department, Union County Sheriff’s Office and Lenox Fire and Rescue.
