Aaron J. Pearson, 28, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 3:28 p.m. Aug. 20 on the charges of OWI, first offense; possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense; possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine, first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia and unlawful possession of prescription drugs.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 6:29 p.m. April 25, a 2009 Hyundai Sonata was observed northbound on Stuart Road at 79 mph in a 55 mph zone. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Pearson, and the odor of marijuana was immediately detected. Pearson admitted to smoking recently.

A probable cause search was conducted which resulted in locating a grinder with a green leafy material inside it, a pipe with burnt marijuana residue in it, in Pearson’s pocket. While searching the vehicle, two glass pipes, commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, a sealed plastic bag containing a crystalline substance which field tested positive for methamphetamine, a prescription bottle without a label on it containing a green leafy substance and two prescription pills which Pearson identified as Gabapentin were found.

Pearson was transported to the Adair County Jail. Standardized field sobriety tests and ARIDE testing was done in the jail sally port, which indicated clues of impairment. Based on these findings, deputies requested a sample of Pearson’s urine, which was sent to the state lab for testing with the crystalline substance found in the vehicle. Laboratory results confirmed the presence of methamphetamine in Pearson’s urine and the crystalline substance tested positive for methamphetamine.

Pearson was cited and released from the Adair County Jail on a summons to appear.

Joseph M. Skiles, 62, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was taken into custody 6:15 p.m. Aug. 21 at Casey’s General Store in Adair on the charge of theft, fifth degree.

According to an Adair Police report, at approximately 2 p.m. officers were notified a theft had just occured at Casey’s. A manager at the convieniance store witnessed a male, later identified as Skiles, take a $4.32 bottle of vodka and conceal it in his back pocket.

Skiles paid for two energy drinks and told the manager he did not have any other items and left the store with the unpaid vodka. Officers located Skiles at approximately 6 p.m., camping in the woods behind the store. He said he had drank the vodka.

Skiles was transported to the Adair County Jail and initially held on $300 cash or surety bond, but was later released on a court order.

Rebecca L. Labertew, 28, of Des Moines, and Justin R. Fitzmier, of Mound City, Missouri, were taken into custody at approximately 1 a.m. Aug. 26 on Interstate 80, westbound, mile marker 91 on the charge of possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 12:20 a.m. a traffic stop was conducted on a 2008 Chevrolet Aveo for an equipment violation. Contact was made with the driver, identified as Fitzmier, and the passenger, identified as Labertew.

During the stop, Labertew admitted to having marijuana in her possession to a Stuart officer before he conducted an open-air sniff around the vehicle with his K-9. Labertew gave the marijuana to officers and a probable cause search of the vehicle was done. In the center console area between the driver and passenger seats, a glass marijuana pipe was located, which Labertew said was hers.

Fitzmier admitted to possessing THC wax and a “dab rig,” used to smoke the wax, after being advised of his Miranda Rights.

Additional items of drug paraphernalia were seized.

Labertew was cited and released on a summons to appear and issued a written warning for unlawful use of a license. Fitzmier was cited and released on a summons to appear and issed written warnings for no valid driver’s license, open container and improper rear lamp.
