David Yepez, 43, of Denver, Colorado, was taken into custody 12:54 a.m. Aug. 6 in Stuart on the charge of domestic abuse assault - injury or mental illness, first offense.

According to a Stuart Police report, at approximately 11:30 p.m. Aug. 5 officers were called to Casey’s General Store in reference to a stolen bus and a female in the store who had visible injuries. When officers arrived. they observed a bus sitting in the 100 block of SW 7th Street occupied by one male, later identified as Yepez. While speaking with Yepez, a female walked out of the store to where officers were. Officers requested to speak with the female away from Yepez.

While speaking with officers, the victim appeared very nervous and upset. When asked what happened and if she had any injuries, the female showed officers her lip but quickly packed away and said everything was fine. Officers observed fresh red marks resembling fingers on the side of the victims neck, which she immediately attempted to cover with her hair when asked about them. The victim told officers she and Yepez had been arguing and she hit her face on a pole after Yepez grabbed onto her to pull her back.

Yepez was transported to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office where he told officers he had argued with the victim and had “aggressively” taking the victim’s phone from her because he did not want others involved in the argument.

Yepez was released from the Adair County Jail after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Serik W. Baldwin, 28, of West Des Moines, was taken into custody 10:09 p.m. Aug. 7 in Casey on the charge of theft, first degree.

According to an Adair County report, at approximately 7:27 p.m. a Dallas County deputy contacted Adair County requesting assistance in contacting a male from Adair in reference to a 2022 Chevrolet truck registered to him, being driven by a male, identified as Baldwin, in Waukee. Baldwin had videos and photos on his phone, which he showed to the Dallas County deputy, showing him walking inside a residence the deputy did not believe to be his, the truck Baldwin was driving was observed in the photos, parked outside of the residence.

Adair County deputies met with registered owner of the truck at his son’s home in Casey. A Toyota Corolla, registered to Baldwin, was parked at the driveway entrance to the residence. The victims showed deputies where Baldwin had entered the home through an old cellar door to the basement. The home owner said several lights were on he had not left on and doors were open which should not have been. The truck appeared to be the only item missing from the residence.

Baldwin was transported to the Adair County Jail and held on $10,000 cash or surety bond.

Charles W. Walker, 36, of Council Bluffs, was taken into custody 10:34 p.m. Aug. 7 at the Pottawattamie County on an Adair County warrant for the charge of violation of probation.

According to an Iowa Department of Correctional Services report, Walker was sentenced May 26, 2022, to two years in prison after being convicted of criminal mischief, third degree. The sentence was suspended and one year probation was imposed. Walker violated the terms of his probation when he failed to contact the probation officer after sentencing to set up his probation intake and supervision and has failed to maintain contact. Attempts to reach Walker via phone, email, mail and social media failed and his whereabouts were unknown.

Walker was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.

Cristian Ortiz, 31, of Adair, was taken into custody 12:47 p.m. Aug. 11 in Greenfield, on an Iowa Governors warrant ordering Ortiz to be taken into custody a charge filed in Dallas County, Texas, for assault on a peace officer of judge.

Ortiz is being held in the Adair County Jail without bond awaiting transport to Texas.

Justin A. Robertson, 43, of Greenfield, was taken into custody 8:23 p.m. Aug. 11 in Greenfield on a Union County warrant for the charge of failure to appear on the original charge of probation violation.

Robertson was transferred to the custody of Union County.
