Dalton J. Cormeny, 31, of Fontanelle, was taken into custody 10 a.m. July 28 on a Union County warrant for the charges of theft, first degree; criminal mischief, second degree and burglary, third degree.

According to an Afton Police report, during investigations into a March 21 burglary of a residence on Highway 34, it was revealed Cormeny was present at the home and during an interview with Cormeny, he admitted to police he had walked through the home and assisted in cutting open a gun safe with a grinder he brought.

Several guns were taken from the gun safe and extensive damage was done by the grinder. The value of the safe was estimated at $4,849. Cormeny did not have permission to be at the residence.

Cormeny was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $20,000 cash or surety bond.

James Pettit, 61, of Afton, was taken into custody 2:21 a.m. July 29 on Highway 34 near Iris Avenue on the charge of OWI, first offense.

According to a Creston Police report, at approximately 1:53 a.m. a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado was observed turning east onto Highway 34 from Osage Street. The Silverado crossed the centerline multiple times and weaved within the lane. A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the driver, identified as Pettit, who had blood shot, watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from his breath.

Pettit told officers he had consumed three to four Busch Lights. He consented to field sobriety testing and showed signs of impairment. A PBT test produced a result over .08%. Pettit was transported to the Union County Law Enforcement Center where he consented to provide a breath sample for chemical testing, which showed a BAC of .091%.

Pettit was transported to the Union County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 bond.
