David R. Duarte, 49, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, was taken into custody 1:47 p.m. July 18 on an Adair County warrant for the charges of criminal mischief, first degree and OWI, second offense.

According to an Adair Police report, at approximately 3:59 p.m. July 17, officers were dispatched to an accident at the Casey’s in Adair. When they arrived they observed two vehicles on fire at the gas pumps. An investigation shows one of the vehicles, a 2002 Pontiac Bonneville, driven by Duarte, had gone into the ditch on the south side of 5th Street while northbound, drove out of the ditch and struck a speed limit sign before correcting and driving over a curb, striking a sign in the Casey’s parking lot, then driving over the curb and striking the gas pump. The impact caused an explosion and fire, engulfing another vehicle with fire, as it was filling with fuel on the other side of the pumps. An off-duty officer helped to get Duante out of the vehicle and to a safe area.

The odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected on Duante’s person, he had bloodshot, watery eyes and admitted to drinking. Duante was observed to have lack of balance while sitting on the ground, using his hands multiple times to stop himself from falling over. Duante has a previous OWI conviction from Saint Croix, Wisconsin, in 2015.

Daunte was transported to the Adair County Jail and held on $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Nathaniel Rogers, 25, and Nicholas Inrachavongsa, 24, both of Des Moines, were taken into custody 1:17 a.m. July 21 on Interstate 80 eastbound, mile marker 96. Rogers was charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and failure to affix drug tax stamp. Inrachavongsa was charged with possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 11:24 p.m. July 20, a 2020 Toyota Camry was observed exceeding the posted speed limit. A traffic stop was conducted and contact was made with the occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, identified as Inrachavongsa and passenger, identified as Rogers.

A K9 was requested to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle, and alerted to the presence of narcotics. A probable cause search was conducted. During the search, 11.5 grams of a white powdery substance was located in Roger’s sock as well as a balled up $1 bill with a white powdery rock inside. The substance was believed to be cocaine. No tax stamp was affixed. A glass jar with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana was located in the center console and a digital scale was found under the passenger seat.

Rogers and Inrachavongsa were transported to the Adair County Jail where Rogers was released from after posting $5,000 cash or surety bond and Inrachavongsa was released after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.

Michael McBride, 29, of Wyoming, Michigan, was taken into custody 10:28 p.m. July 21 on Interstate 80 eastbound, mile marker 78, on the charges of possession of a controlled substance - marijuana, first offense; possession of a controlled substance - cocaine, first offense; felon in possession of a firearm and theft, fourth degree.

According to an Iowa State Patrol report, at approximately 8:36 p.m. a Toyota Highlander was stopped for traveling 84 mph in a 70 mph zone. While speaking with the driver of the vehicle, identified as McBride, the odor of marijuana was detected and troopers observed a glass jar containing what appeared to be marijuana shake on the front passenger seat. McBride admitted to possessing marijuana.

A probable cause search of the vehicle resulted in locating approximately 1/8 of an ounce of marijuana, approximately five grams of cocaine, a loaded 9mm handgun and a short-barreled .223 caliber rifle. The handgun was reported as a stolen weapon from Mount Pleasant, Michigan. McBride is also a convicted felon.

McBride was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $5,000 cash or surety bond.

Caleb Root, 43, of Concord, Michigan, was taken into custody 7:50 p.m. July 22 on the 1200 block of White Pole Road on the charges of three counts of possession of a controlled substance, first offense; possession of drug paraphernalia; providing false identification to law enforcement, drug tax stamp violation and an outside county warrant.

According to an Adair Police report, at approximately 7:15 p.m. officers initiated a traffic stop on a 2013 Lexus observed traveling 91 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 80 eastbound before exiting at mile marker 75. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Root, provided officers with a Nebraska license, which officers discovered did not belong to Root.

While speaking with Root the odor of marijuana was detected coming from the vehicle and Root told officers the smell was because he had smoked the substance the previous day. A probable cause search of the vehicle was done.

A small container of marijuana was found on the driver’s side floor and a pipe used to smoke wax was found on the backseat floorboard. A box found on the passenger side floorboard contained 322 grams of marijuana, 14 grams of marijuana in a glass jar and rolling papers. In the driver’s side door, a small container with two rock-like substances which later field tested positive for methamphetamine, were located. Also found was an over-the-counter pill bottle which contained 4 oval pills identified as a schedule II controlled substance.

While searching the Lexus, officers found a wallet in the center console which contained Root’s actual identification. Root admitted the marijuana and pills were his but stated the methamphetamine was not.

Root was transported to the Adair County Jail were he was held on $5,000 cash or surety bond. Root was also found to have a valid warrant from another agency.

Mark Ivanko, 43, of Fairview, New Jersey, was taken into custody 8:01 p.m. July 22 on Interstate 80 eastbound, mile marker 108, on the charges of OWI, first offense; open container and speeding, 20 mph or over the posted limit.

According to an Adair County report, deputies were made aware of a Land Rover driving recklessly at a high rate of speed eastbound on the interstate. At approximately 7:20 p.m. deputies observed a 2022 Land Rover, matching the vehicle description, sitting on the shoulder near mile marker 93. As deputies got closer to the vehicle, it took off at a high rate of speed. Radar showed the Land Rover to be traveling 108 mph in a 70 mph zone.

A traffic stop was initiated and contact was made with the driver, who identified himself as Ivanko. The odor of an alcoholic beverage was detected coming from Ivanko and he had bloodshot, watery eyes and an open container of an alcoholic beverage in the driver’s door panel. Field sobriety tests were given to Ivanko and he consented to PBT testing. The results of testing indicated clues of impairment and a BrAC of over .08%.

Ivanko was transported to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office where he consented to provide a sample of his breath for chemical testing. The result of the test indicated a BAC of .234%.

Ivanko was taken to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $1,000 cash or surety bond.
