Jesse C. Christensen, 24, of Creston, was taken into custody 10:16 p.m. July 12 on the 3300 block of Highway 25 on the charge of OWI, second offense.
According to an Adair County report, at approximately 9:56 p.m. deputies observed a 2009 Pontiac G6 brake hard at the intersection of Division and Broad streets in Orient. The vehicle continued south and cut the corner short at Clark Street, as it turned east. Deputies heard the vehicle accelerate at a rapid rate. Deputies were able to get behind the vehicle outside of Orient city limits and locked its speed at 107 mph on radar.
While attempting to catch up to the vehicle to initiate a traffic stop, the vehicle was observed swerving back and forth, almost losing control after serving to the west shoulder and over-correcting. The vehicle traveled on the wrong side of the highway at least twice. After deputies activated lights and siren, the driver, later identified as Christensen, slowed down and pulled in to a private drive. Contact was made with Christensen and an open Coors Light can was observed in the center console of the vehicle. Christensen had bloodshot, watery eyes and slurred speech.
Christensen was given field sobriety tests which indicated clues of impairment. He consented to a PBT test which showed a BrAC over .08%. After being transported to the Adair County Sheriff’s Office, Christensen would not consent or refuse to a requested breath specimen withdrawal for chemical testing, which was taken as a refusal by law enforcement.
Christensen was transported to the Adair County Jail where he was released from after posting $2,000 cash or surety bond.
