LETTER: Vote yes in Adams County

Hartford, Jeanne Jackson

Adams County

We urge you to vote yes on public measure AJ on Nov. 5.

Out of Iowa’s 99 counties, only 37 have five supervisors. With Adams County being the smallest populated county in Iowa, it is time we join the majority of counties in the state and reduce our number of supervisors.

Supervisors can work more effectively and efficiently. They can keep a calendar and rotate their committee attendance. They can trust their own committee and commission appointees and set up a regular schedule, speaking to those chairs on a regular basis by phone or one at a mutually agreeable time. They can delegate and oversee effectively.

By doing so, they can empower more Adams County citizens to be much more actively involved in the community.

WE are a communitha tneeds to pull in more individuasl from the Prescott, Williamson, Carbon, Nodaway Kent and outlying areas, relying less ont the same power broker names.

It is time to remember this our county, not the county of the same few names or the county of the same few organizations run by the same few people. It is time to trust the appointees, to delegate, to share, to provide opportunities for others to step forward.

We urge you to vote on Nov. 5. It’s time for change. Vote yet for the last item on the ballot. It is called public measure AJ. We encourage a downsizing from five board of supervisors to three.
